Data Access – Access without headaches

Everyone needs access to their data. Many small businesses today are struggling to get that access set up in a way that is inexpensive, easy to use and secure.

In this post, we’ll look at some basic principles for data access to help you decide how to move forward with it and let you know how PST can help with all things cybersecurity related.

Data

Data. A big little word. It can mean 1 tiny byte or thousands and thousands of gigs, terabytes, petabytes or exabytes. Data is made up or office files (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook), pdf’s, pictures, movie files, audio files, QuickBooks files, etc, etc, etc. Far too many file types to mention here but it is all data. And data is meant to be accessed by those who need to so it must be accessible when anyone needs it.

Access

For many years servers were the main way to share data across employees for companies but many smaller business have migrated to using cloud services like OneDrive, DropBox, Google Drive, Jungle Disk, etc. Thes cloud sharing services are significantly less expensive than buying, setting up and maintaining a server. The cloud sharing services also do not require a VPN or other remote access methods in order to access the data which makes them more user friendly for non-IT people. You might still want an IT person to help with the setup and some basic training on how to share (different ways to do it and different things to consider when doing so) and how you can backup some of these cloud sharing services.

We can help you with creating the account, setting up the file sharing and training you and your employees on how to use these cloud sharing services via the cloud and local sync folders on the computers, tablets and phones.
